CRA Bulletin Update
Slow processing and phone call issues
Over the past several months, accessing support through the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) phone lines has become increasingly difficult. This challenge stems from a combination of factors, including a substantial backlog of work and a shortage of representatives available to handle inquiries. As a result, critical processes such as client reviews, audits, and adjustments to tax filings are facing significant delays.
Phone Issues:
Our work requires direct communication with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) to address key aspects of our clients’ files. However, recent changes to the authorization process have made it increasingly difficult for us to gain timely access to client accounts. In many cases, even clients themselves are now required to contact the CRA to assist in facilitating access—yet reaching a representative has become a considerable challenge. Extended hold times exceeding three hours have become common, creating frustration and delaying our ability to complete essential work.
Slow Processing Issues:
Due to the overwhelming volume of work currently being processed by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), we are observing significantly extended timelines for completed submissions. In particular, tax reviews and adjustments are taking anywhere from four months to over a year to be reviewed, amended, and finalized. These delays directly impact individuals’ ability to access key documents—such as their most recent Notice of Assessment—which are often required for financial and legal matters, including mortgage approvals, bank loans, business purchases, and vehicle acquisitions.
We greatly appreciate your patience and continued understanding as we navigate these challenging circumstances. Our team is working diligently to address the backlog and complete the necessary tasks as efficiently as possible. In the meantime, we encourage you to remain persistent when attempting to reach the Canada Revenue Agency. If needed, consider calling at regular intervals (every 10–15 minutes). Should you be placed on hold, keeping your phone on speaker mode can allow you to continue with your day while awaiting assistance. If available, we also recommend taking advantage of the callback feature to help manage wait times more effectively.
Thank you: Team E.T.
